Stolen vehicles recovered by Gardai in Balbriggan

PRESS RELEASE

Following the appearance of Cartell’s Jeff Aherne on RTÉ News on Saturday in connection with the seizure of stolen vehicles by Gardai in Balbriggan Cartell.ie advise consumers to be aware of an increased risk of unsuspectingly purchasing a stolen vehicle.

Jeff Aherne, Director with Cartell.ie, says: “The unfortunate thing is that an unsuspecting purchaser of a stolen vehicle has no come-back as title in the vehicle can never pass to him/her in this type of scenario and the sad reality is that the purchaser will lose the vehicle. To prevent against that scenario we strongly urge prospective buyers to carry out a Cartell check before purchase. ”

Purchasers of Vehicles should always:

– Ask to see the Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC) and inspect the watermark;

– Ask the vendor to produce identification (e.g. Passport) and ensure that the name matches with the name on the VRC;

– Check the chassis number of the vehicle to ensure it has not been tampered with (usually located in the cabin on drivers side and under the bonnet)

– Before purchasing the vehicle always conduct a Car History check and ensure that the VRC number and chassis number match with the official records held against the vehicle you are purchasing;

– Observe the selling price of the vehicle (usually stolen vehicles are sold at cheaper prices)

– Finally, inspect the vehicle visually to check for anything suspicious and be aware of the demeanour of the individual selling it.
