Four Star Report Contents

A qualified Automotive Engineer will check if:
The vehicle is mechanically sound – carry out a Short Road Test and check handling and performance.
The vehicle has been crashed – External Visual Inspection (ramp if necessary).
All contents of the Four Star report (as below) will be checked against the vehicle – so you won’t have to.
If the vehicle is the correct specification – compare detailed model on report, on the vehicle and Registration Certificate to see if they match.
If the engine has been changed – may be an indication that the vehicle has been involved in a front side collision.
If the vehicle is a clone or a “cut-and-shut” – cross-reference vehicle chassis number and registration certificate with Cartell report. If different, the vehicle may have the identity of another vehicle or possibly stolen.
If the vehicle documentation is valid or forged – compare Registration Certificate and NCT Certificate Number and details on report and vehicle. If the Registration Certificate does not match the vehicle may be stolen. If the NCT Certificate does not match the NCT may be invalid.
The number of previous owners – compare the entry on report and Registration Certificate.
If the vehicle has been off the road for long periods – report will show if tax expiry dates are in the past.
If the vehicle has been imported – report will provide previous registration and date of first registered in Ireland.
Dates of sale – including non private registered sales.
If the vehicle has been taxed as a Taxi, Hackney or a Commercial Vehicle.
If the vehicle has been recorded as Scrapped or Written Off (Source National Vehicles File).
If the odometer reading entered highlighted any discrepancies on the National Mileage Register(NMR) which may require further investigation.
If the vehicle is subject to a financial agreement – if the outstanding finance remains unpaid when you purchase the vehicle, you may not acquire title to it.
